B-colours (majolica)

These colours are used to the decoration to raw don't yet burnt out white opaque glaze. These colours are referred to as majolica also and they are used for the temperature 980 °C - 1 050 °C (1 080 °C).

The colours compose of dyeing component, i.e. ceramic pigment or non-ferrous metals oxide, that determines the colour shade, and the smelting component, that is instrumental to good link to the ground-glaze. They are undone with the water and impasted by the brush. After the desiccation, the decorated ceramics are burned out at the temperature of ground-glaze. Most used are the white, opaque zirconium glazes without the content of PbO, e.g. Pw 141 91, Pw 101 91, that are burned out at the temperatures 980 °C - 1050 °C (1080 °C).

The description of the application

The majolica colours are powdered and these are undone with the water, eventually with some drops of glycerin. The density of the colour prepared depends on the required intensity of the colour after the burning. By the thinner colour they will be reached the lighter shades, by the more thick colour the more intense shades (like at the work with the water colours).

We recommend to prove in advance the density of the colours and thereby the resulting shade.

The colours are impasted by the special brush, that are intended for the decoration on the don't burnt out glaze. By the normal brush you fail to reach the required results, that type for the decorated ceramics - the brush painting and the sharp painting contour. The colours are applied to the glaze, that may not be too dry. We recommend to perform the painting 1 - 2 hours after the glaze application to the product.

At the decoration of the hard dry product, it happen the rapid water-suction from the colour applied. The brush paintint is then not so fluent, it can be intermittent. In the colour applied, they remain the air-bubbles, that change after the burning into white dots. The colours are miscible with one another without any stint.
